I’m especialy working with acrylics. Some weeks ago I discovered the work of Peter Zimmermann. I’m searching for acrylic products that can simulate the glaze and
layers of a few milimeters Zimmermann makes with epoxy resin. I already have the epoxy products but they seem very unhealthy. I’m looking for an alternative in acrylics.

En dit is het antwoord die ik de volgende dag al in mijn mailbox kreeg:

Hello Ilse,

I am not sure that you will be able to get the exact look of the epoxy resins, but it is possible to use some of our mediums, tinted with GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics, and pour, or spread them on a surface to get translucent, glossy films. I would suggest first experimenting with GOLDEN Clear Tar Gel. Carefully blend about 10% Fluid acrylic …the color of your choice…into some amount of Tar Gel, and then let it sit overnight to release some of the bubbles. You should be able to drizzle this mixture like honey, onto a surface. You can, of course, also gently manipulate the gel with speading tools ( palette knife, etc). You could try this with GOLDEN Self Leveling Gel also. If applied too thickly, either one of these products can exhibit crazes and even cracks.

You may also try GOLDEN Polymer Medium tinted with GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics. If you want to have a more satin like finish, you could blend GOLDEN Fluid Matte Medium with the Polymer Medium. links to more information about these, and other products

We do have some custom pouring mediums that are not as clear as the above products, but several of them ( there are three) will have fewer surface defects than the regular pouring products. Unfortunately, it can take up to 10 weeks for a small sample ( 1 or 2 oz ) to ship overseas. If you are willing to pay UPS shipping charges and some additonal charges incurred on your end, we can ship it to you in about 5 days. These issues are best discussed with our international customer service representative.

Here is some information about our custom pouring mediums:

Pouring Medium #1 –
First one we made with idea of reducing crazing of existing tar gel. Levels a bit more than tar gel, but is not nearly as clear as tar gel. It is a foggy yellowish color by itself.

Pouring Medium #2 –
Second one we made to enable a good “pancake pour” without cracking or crazing. It is the thickest of the three. Foggy yellow like #1. Will see motion lines in dry film due to viscosity/rheology, but best for pancake pours.

Pouring Medium #3 –
Third one we made to enable best leveling ( in an acrylic ) for covering a surface. It has best clearity ( ??might only be due to thickness of film which, due to leveling, will be thinner, but not sure ). Better leveling than self leveling gel. Spreads out well.

I would suggest first going to the store nearest to you and trying some of the regular products I mentioned. If these do not work for you, then you can ask the store if they can order these custom products for you. You should know that our custom products have to include a custom mixing fee and so will be more expensive than our regular products.
Also, while our distributor in Belgium may order some of these products for you, it could take months to arrive, and the expense may be considerable.

If I can be of any more help, please don’t hesitate to email or call.

Best regards,

Scott

Wat een service 😉 Ik heb ondertussen een aantal van die producten gekocht. Binnenkort volgen wat foto’s van de experimenten.
